In Memoriam
Ira Schneider (1945-2008)
Ira Schneider started his law practice in 1986 and is considered one of the founding fathers of elder law on Long Island, serving the Long Island community for over 30 years until his passing in 2008.
Starting in 1987, Ira Schneider served as a mentor for Vivian Garrastegui. The two worked closely together for over 20 years before his passing, leading to Ms. Garrastegui taking over the firm. His name continues to be associated with the practice in honor of him and the work he did in the elder law community.
Mr. Schneider authored numerous articles on elder law for publications such as the Nassau Lawyer, Alzheimer's Association Journal, Journal of the American Board of the Family Practice, Newsday, and more. Additionally, in 1989, he published Financial Planning for Long-term Care: A Guide for Lawyers, Caregivers, and Consumers. Like Ms. Garrastegui, he also frequently lectured and held seminars on the topic of elder law.
Ira Schneider was a member of the National Committee of Elder Law Attorneys, New York State Bar Association, Nassau County Bar Association, Florida Bar Association,
National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives, and the Florida Bar Association. He was highly respected for his work and his passing was a great loss to the legal community.
